Surrendering to life itself means granting yourself the permission to align your dreams, desires and projects to the highest version of yourself. That most evolved, awakened and conscious part of you. This involves giving consent to your divine-self, in its vast wisdom, to help you build a wonderful and meaningful life for yourself. Visualize a life in which you are flowing in harmony, being grateful for living it and fully enjoying every moment.
What imagery do you connect with? How would you describe the emotion or feeling generated by the idea of surrendering to life?
- Perhaps you imagine yourself standing on the edge of a cliff, and while appreciating the vastness of the ocean, you choose to let yourself fall. This action, for those who have experience it, usually arouses different emotions during the process. In most cases, it generates a fear of jumping… a paralyzing feeling, charged with a mixture of adrenaline and excitement, a boost of emotions. The mind may wonder how much the impact with the water might hurt or how deep the body will submerge before attempting to return to the surface. Without a doubt, all this may potentially prevent you from taking the leap, just like the multiple reasons or excuses that we usually have for not flowing with life. Yet once you do it, if you decide to do it, the experience transforms into an overload of excitement, mixed with a feeling of freedom, lightness and tranquility. What is more, you feel overcome by a sense of the peace inside you, which allows you to flow and start living in the here and now.
- Another image could be when one slides down a water slide. Once you step into the chute, the only thing you can do is relax your body and let it slide in harmony with the water flowing down the path. The most important thing of all is to focus on enjoying the ride. Not knowing the course of the slide itself can foster multiple fears and insecurities, coupled with adventure and excitement. Yet in this case, you know that at the end of the journey there is a pool full of water, ready to safely welcome you. This in itself, allows you to trust that everything is going to be OK. With this certainty, it is easier to launch yourself down the slide of life, flowing in harmony with the water, gliding through the experience. Until you arrive at your destination… enjoy the journey… every curve, every turn and every single surprise destiny presents you.
- Another analogy of surrendering to life, which I happen to identify with the most, is visualizing yourself floating down a river, surrounded by a brilliant environment full of trees and flowers. You let your body suspend in the water with your arms outstretched, head up, and eyes looking up at a beautiful sky. You close your eyes, and submerge within this beautiful scenery, directing your attention to the lightness and freedom generated by letting yourself flow in tune with the movement of the river. There is no need to rush through anything, no need to force yourself to go against the flow, no need to worry about getting anywhere in particular. You open your eyes to reconnect with your surroundings, while your body is still suspended, flowing and being one with the river. Taking the time to appreciate all the beauty that surrounds you, you become aware of every detail around you. Perhaps this way it is easier for you to appreciate and observe the great gift that life is in itself.
So, after all these visualizations… what would you rather do? What example best fits your essence? Whether you choose to jump, slide or flow, just surrender to the wisdom of living. What really matters is that you can manage to trust life more, embrace the universe guidance and grant yourself the time and space to enjoy the ride… Maybe in time, we will come to an understanding that life is a beautiful dance filled with jumps, slides and flows, where everything is a key part of our unique and personal journey.
Surrendering to life or flowing in harmony with life does not mean that you give up or cease having dreams and goals. It is imperative that you consciously visualize the best version of yourself and/or the best version of the life you want to have.
Once you have that vision clear, surrender yourself fully to life and let it surprise you while it lovingly leads you to the realization of your goals.
Remember to take advantage of the path itself, to enjoy and be grateful for every moment.
Don’t keep waiting to reach your destination to be happy and live fully.
